About Me
I’m a designer with nearly three decades building digital products from web's early days to modern applications.
After earning my BS in design in 1999 and working as a freelance graphic designer, I landed my first web-related role at a small web design agency. Back then there weren't dedicated web dev teams so designers usually had to code their own websites, there I learned HTML and CSS (an emerging technology) the hard way, dealing with the constant compatibility battles between IE6 and Netscape.
In 2003, I co-founded a design agency with former design school colleagues. We started as a 5-person design shop and quickly grew to over 40 employees. Through our partnership with an engineering firm in Ukraine, we offered everything from graphic and web design to desktop applications and marketing campaigns. As art director, I led projects including UI design for desktop and web apps, and marketing campaigns for high-profile clients like Symantec and Vantage Software.
After six years growing the agency, I was ready for a new challenge and joined MaestroConference, an Oakland-based company that provided technology for large-scale, interactive virtual events. Their client roster included the 2009 Obama Campaign, the White House, half a dozen US political entities (including 9 of the top 10 Democratic presidential campaigns), and non-political customers like the World Bank, Uber, and Airbnb. I worked as lead web designer, UI/UX designer, and eventually product manager alongside the CEO.
In 2017, we launched VoiceVoice, a first-of-its-kind automated facilitation platform for large-scale virtual events, serving customers like Greenpeace and Women's March. I continued in my design and product management role until 2022, when the CEO sold the software.
That same year, Folio3 contacted me to work on their most complex project to date: a 3D kitchen designer and budget planner application for one of Spain's largest kitchen furniture manufacturers. I served as product owner and designer for two years until the product launched in 2024.
